Due to severe flooding in South Punjab, a section of the M-5 Motorway, near Jalalpur Pirwala, has been washed away. As a result, the motorway is now closed to all traffic.

According to police and officials from the National Highway Authority (NHA), a breach occurred on the Ooch Sharif Road, causing significant damage. Repairs were attempted, but strong water flow forced workers to stop.

The authorities have set up diversions, redirecting traffic to alternate routes. To protect the motorway from further erosion, sandbags and rocks are being deployed. Officials from PDMA Punjab have issued alerts. Hamariweb.com

PDMA spokesman Irfan Kathia noted that they expect the water level to drop over the next 24 hours and river flows to slow down quickly.

Many villages around Shujaabad and Jalalpur Pirwala are submerged. Thousands of acres of standing crops have been destroyed. In Liaqatpur, the high flood of the Chenab River affected Manchan Band, causing over 300 houses to be swept away. In Ali Pur, hundreds of villages across 14 mouzas are under water.

Rescue operations are ongoing. Authorities are evacuating people and livestock to safer places.
